Massachusetts Unfair Business Practices Statute
In Massachusetts both individuals and business owners protected under Massachusetts Consumer protection statute, also known as Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 93A. This statute protects those who are victims of unfair and deceptive trade practices that occur within the commonwealth of Massachusetts, regardless of where the business is located.
Chapter 93A applies to all businesses who conduct business or take actions here in Massachusetts. Chapter 93A provides a remedy for those who are the victims of fraud, misrepresentation, unfair business practices, or other oppressive or strong arm measures.
In some circumstances; if it becomes necessary to file a complaint against a business who has engaged in unfair business practices, the harmed party may be able to recover triple (treble) damages, plus attorney’s fees and costs associated with the lawsuit.
